Concrete Scanning

Concrete Scanning – Rebar Detection

In many cases, both residential and commercial renovation projects require concrete covering or trenching (cutting) for the purpose of replacing plumbing and utility lines. Our concrete scanning and rebar detection services are performed using the right technology and technical knowledge, which helps prevent costly damage to foundations or structural components. If concrete covering or cutting is done without concrete scanning, it can cause partial or complete damage to foundation beams, electrical conduits, water plumbing, rebar, or structural post-tensioned cables.

In cases where a construction assessment or retrofit is required to assess the load-bearing capacity of an older reinforced concrete structure, and the original blueprints are missing, our concrete scanning and rebar scanning services can reveal reinforcing steel layout features including rebar size, depth, and orientation. Additionally, when concrete core is necessary, drilling through steel reinforcement is advised against, as this may compromise the load-bearing capacity of the structure. Additionally, the Concrete Institute does not recognize testing of concrete cores containing rebar as an accurate method for assessing the compressive strength of a structure or without concrete scanning.

Various Uses of Concrete Screening Include:

• Location of conduits
• Location of reinforcement
• Location of post tension cables
• Thickness of slabs
• Location of duct banks
• Survey of walls and ceilings
• Detection of underground cavities
• Detection of subsurface voids
• Location and orientation of buried metal objects
• Locate steel reinforcement within concrete elements.
• Rebar Scanning positioning and spacing.
• Estimate thickness of concrete core.
• Identify significant voids and inconsistencies in concrete slabs.
• Inspection of tunnel linings

How Do We Concrete Scanning

Our company uses cutting-edge technology and boasts a skilled team of technicians who specialize in both concrete construction and assessing the condition of new or existing structures.

⇒ We ask the client about the purpose of the concrete scanning and rebar detection process.
⇒ We conduct a visual inspection of the structure before proceeding with the scanning, either remotely or on site.
⇒ Using our concrete scanning tools, we extract all the required information from the structure.
⇒ If necessary, we can provide on-site markings for all utility lines or reinforcing steel located within the concrete scanned area. We can also mark safe locations for drilling or caulking.
⇒ If structural details are required, our services are enhanced by providing a detailed report that includes rebar configuration, spacing, and diameter.

Inspect Before Making Any Cuts, Cores, or Drills.

Before you begin any cutting, coring, or drilling activities, it’s important to know what’s hidden beneath the surface. Concrete scanning gives contractors, engineers, and facility managers the ability to accurately and safely locate rebar, post-tensioning cables, conduits, and voids without resorting to destructive testing.

At National Line Survey, we offer GPR concrete scanning services that combine cutting-edge technology with years of practical experience. Our goal is to help you avoid costly damage, mitigate risks, and ensure your projects stay on schedule and within budget. Our skilled technicians provide clear and actionable imaging results, allowing you to move forward with construction and renovations with confidence.
